The restaurant cost $4 million to build – $1 million more than a conventional Applebee's. Size matters Wal-Mart opens its smallest store on Georgia tech campus W al-Mart is doing it again. A miniature version of its retail stores will open on the Georgia Tech campus in the second quarter of this year. At 2,500 square feet, the store will be the smallest in the United States for the retailer. By comparison, Wal-Mart Neighborhood Markets average 40,000 square feet, while Wal-Mart Express stores average about 15,000 square feet. Georgia Tech will be Wal-Mart's second college campus location – the first opened at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., in 2011. The Wal-Mart on Campus concept is a test format that will focus on pharmacy and basic grocery items, health and beauty aids, and general merchandise products. The Georgia Tech outlet will be 2,500 square feet. In addition to the store's limited mix of goods, Wal-Mart also will offer check cashing and bill paying services.
