NEWSLETTER Past Presidents – Where are They Now? Jim Healy By Jennifer Danquist Kilgore, Director of Business Development & Marketing, Singleton Construction, LLC When it comes to the RCA, we would not be here without our Past Presidents, who have guided this association, built it up, and watched it continue to grow. For this we are all grateful. In an effort to recognize these "founding fathers," remember our beginnings, and review our history, each edition features a RCA past president and gives some insight into their time at the helm as well as talks about what they're doing now. Fishing is much more than fsh. It is the great occasion when we may return to the fne simplicity of our forefathers. – Herbert Hoover Jim Healy is Vice President of Healy Construction Services, Inc., a company with more than 30 years of experience in the retail construction industry. Healy Construction is a nationally recognized contractor with a broad portfolio, offering services in site construction, general contracting, and close outs. It is a woman-owned company, with Kathy Healy, Jim's wife, at the helm as President. Healy Construction's motto is "Building is the easy part; it takes Jim Healy an expert to provide a solid foundation for success." One of those experts is Jim, who learned the business from the ground up. "My father encouraged me to learn construction and blueprint reading. He was always a hands-on person—from doing the estimating to making the phone calls—and involved himself in all aspects of any work he performed," said Healy. Healy talks about how he has seen the industry evolve. He remembers receiving plans with a two-month bidding period and using pencil and paper to respond. What was once an un-hurried bidding process has now become GOOD PARTNERS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOALS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS 6 faLL EDITION • 2013 a fast-paced environment with bids being done much more rapidly, and almost completely electronically. Joining the RCA and serving on the Board of Directors from 2002 to 2006, including a term as President in 2003, has benefted Healy personally, as well as professionally for the company. "My favorite thing about the RCA is the camaraderie with all the general contractors across the United States. I made new friends and got to know how they operated individually. Along with that, I enjoyed the meetings and interactions with the advisors and members of the organization," said Healy. Healy continued, "Professionally, my involvement in RCA has allowed me to meet many more retail clients and make contacts with numerous vendors and suppliers that helped our company grow over the years. Personally, it helped me to understand business more clearly. I had the opportunity to learn from the various personalities who wanted to improve their companies."
