iNduStry NewS industry news eye on retail The volume of hotel transactions in the United States during the frst half of 2013, up from 364 a year ago, according to a recent report by Lodging Econometrics. Of all transactions, 216 were hotels sold within portfolios, while 334 were individual hotel transactions. The number of hotels in portfolios sold year-todate was 400 percent higher than the same period of 2012. Retailers will continue to grapple with the increasing impact of internet-based sales on their "bricks-and-mortar" stores. Successful retailers will be the ones that fgure out how to grasp the best of both worlds and provide a unifed, brand-consistent customer experience via all channels. Also, the "service retail" sector will be greatly impacted by the activation of the Affordable Care Act, via the estimated 25 million newly insured people coming into the health care system.
