Moe's Southwest Grill plans to bring 14 new restaurants to the Sacramento area over the next seven years, part of its frst push into California. Chipotle plans to open 180 to 195 restaurants in the United States in 2014. In addition, it is investing in Pizzeria Locale, a pizzeria where patrons go down the line to pick their toppings and pay at the counter. Taco Bell is launching a large-scale expansion effort to reach its goal of opening 2,000 new restaurants in the United States by 2023. The plan includes recruiting more franchisees, especially females and minorities, and expanding the number of units owned by existing franchisees. Domino's Pizza's new store design is a big part of the brand's plan to expand market share. It is mandating that all units be remodeled to refect the new look by the end of 2017. Shoney's is continuing its rise from bankruptcy protection with a revamped footprint. It aims to build the chain back up to 1,200 restaurants. In addition, it will open its frst in-mall restau- rant at Sugarloaf Mills in Lawrenceville, Ga., an another with full liquor service. Krispy Kreme plans to open as many as 15 new company-owned stores and about two dozen U.S. franchise locations in 2014. retail Saks Fifth Avenue is planning for a $1.25 billion refurbishment of its stores, starting with the New York City fagship. The luxury department store chain, acquired by Hudson's Bay Co. last November, plans to woo younger shoppers in some cities with expanded contemporary fashion collections and exclusive merchandise. Japan's Fast Retailing will open three new Uniqlo stores in the San Francisco Bay area, which will bring the retailer's total to eight stores in that market and 17 nationwide. Uniqlo also plans to open its frst stores in Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Food Lion's newest format at a remodeled store in North Carolina is part of its "easy, fresh and affordable" strategy, which includes faster and easier checkout, a different bagging system, lower top shelves, an expanded gluten-free department and a garden cooler that keeps produce fresher for longer. Neiman Marcus Group plans to continue its domestic growth, albeit selectively, with a full-line store slated on Long Island, N.Y., in 2016. The retailer says there is room within the brand to open up to eight more. restaurant Marriott International is opening a 1,000-room hotel in development in Houston under the Marriott brand. Construc- tion on the Marriott Marquis is scheduled to begin this year for a 2016 opening near the Houston Convention Center. InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) plans to open an Even wellness-themed hotel in New York's Brooklyn borough in 2015, bringing the hotelier's Even-branded proper- ties in the city to three. IHG has already begun construction of the planned 204-room hotel. Accor is reorganizing the company into two business units. The HotelServices unit will function as a franchisor and operator of 3,600 properties in Accor's portfolio, while the HotelInvest unit focuses on investments in hotel assets and controls about 1,400 hotels fully or partially owned by the frm. The company also will restructure its brand portfolio under three segments: budget, mid- scale and upscale, and reorganize its global operations according to geography. Choice Hotels International plans to grow its Cambria Suites brand in Canada through a partnership with Maplewood Ho- tels & Resorts.
