The sofTware soluTion Inside the Jantzen Beach Target SuperCenter Project Profile: Jantzen Beach Target 1405 Jantzen Beach Center Portland, Ore. Project Length & Value: 6 months, $750 million Project Scope: Drywall, Structural Steel Framing & Acoustical Ceiling General Contractor: Skanska Drywall Contractor: MCG Commercial MCG's recent deployment of On Center Software's On-Screen Takeoff® and Quick Bid automation technology was instrumental in helping complete the Jantzen Beach Target project on time and on budget. For example, developing material lists can be a time-consuming, error-prone task, especially when relying on antiquated manual methods. Through the use of takeoff and estimating technology, MCG is able to provide its field foremen with an immediate materials list for the job, which included pricing, quantity and size. With a few clicks on the keyboard takeoff information entered online during the initial bid was printed, immediately after materials were ordered. Prior to using takeoff and estimating technology, MCG relied on the manual process of entering information into a spreadsheet. The process was labor intensive and unreliable, as quantities were not always correct. Because it was difficult for field foremen to understand the format, developing a materials list also was a very time-consuming process. The use of automation technology has greatly streamlined processes for MCG. With On-Screen Takeoff, all material is accurately measured and accounted for, and data can be grouped by type or area, while pricing is linked to takeoff data. The result is a huge time saving for the field foremen. The way that Quick Bid is set up, within the reports section, contractors now have the ability to print quantities, different sizes and various types of material required for a job. Because the information is so specific and easy to read, there is no need to spend time re-teaching the field about the materials that they are looking at for each project. By having the materials list readily available for the field foremen to place orders, MCG estimates saving several days at the front end of the project. The biggest advantage was the ability to prepare loads and get them to the vendors quicker. For a fast-paced project such as this, a two-day delay would have resulted in a big start problem, and would have significantly impacted its ability to meet the deadline. Using takeoff and estimating technology start avoided delays. With the Jantzen Beach Target SuperCenter project completed, MCG continues to use its recently deployed automation technology. Today, the technology is helping it land more projects. In today's market, the ability to push out more bids is essential to succeeding. Because Quick Bid enables MCG to save a significant amount of time when developing bids, it is able to look at more projects and increase its bid volume.
