The number of
new hotels that
opened in 2012
in the United States, according to
the STR/McGraw Hill Construction
Dodge Pipeline Report. The number
represents 0.5 percent growth over
the previous year and an addition of
43,865 rooms to the total supply.

according to Jones Lang
LaSalle hotels. The increase is credited
to a rise in available lenders. Jones
Lang says that real estate investment
trusts and private-equity companies
will continue to make up a large part
of the buying market.
Fast-food grocers
Supermarket/restaurant partnerships are on the rise

ere's a trend to keep an eye on.
More quickservice restaurants are
expected to open in supermarkets and
convenience stores. The union began when
large quick service restaurant chains such
as McDonald's, Pizza Hut
and Starbucks began sharing
space with retailers such as
Wal-Mart and Target.
Today, the trend
includes Caribou Coffee
joining forces with Chicago Jewel-Osco stores and
Checkers, Philly Pretzel Factory and Rally's planning to
open branches at Wal-Mart

stores. In addition, the Italian chain Fazoli's is increasing its efforts to make a big
impression in convenience stores.
The reason? Depends on whom you
ask. Some industry experts say fast food
chains may be exploring
the partnerships out of
desperation, as many fast
food companies are owned
by publicly held companies
that are expected to show
continuous growth.
