spreading its wings From upholding a budget to maintaining a strict construction schedule, everything must be carried out with control and regulation. "It has been very exciting and satisfying to watch Zoës assemble the development, architectural, and construction team that they now have in place," says Keith Smith, assistant VP of Venture. "In my opinion, they have done it right from locations, design and build out. I am just proud to have been a part of the team that works so diligently to make every build out a success." Embracing change Developing the prototype was a lengthy process, taking nearly two years from start to completion. It all began with a conversation. Tobin Starr + Partners sat down with Zoës and asked, "What do you want this to be?" From there, the team worked together to create a comprehensive design, and refned the details until everything was complete. Zoës' high standards for aesthetics were maintained, and signature brand elements remained in the store plan. But the overall approach was softened and a distinguished atmosphere developed in the restaurant. As the corporate architect, Tobin Starr + Partners has a hand in the design development work for every store, including the franchised locations, ensuring consistency across the country. Simplifying the process The team streamlined the development process by creating a systematic documentation system. Specifc preliminary details were needed for each location, including base building information with CAD fles, landlord contact information, local jurisdiction and existing space details. Sitting down together, the design team realized that Zoës did not have an effcient way to record and provide this information.
