villas in, well, a two-week period. That's how the Give Kids The World "Extreme Village Makeover" idea began. Logistics and planning took about 10 months, as Rall and his Wyndham crew spearheaded efforts to evaluate the task, plan for needed resources and schedule crews. The Wyndham team invested countless hours to create a master plan that addressed every contin- gency without missing a detail. Partners were added to the planning group, including one key asset group from the City of Kissimmee, under the leadership of Dave Derrick, director of public works and engineering. Derrick provided permitting, inspections, waste man- agement and many other essential services. Time few by, contractors were enlisted and, suddenly Jan. 12, 2014, arrived – the beginning of the Extreme Village Makeover. With the Wyndham Vacation Ownership staff devoting two more full weeks at Give Kids The World Village on-site to manage the renovation efforts, 88 villas were totally upgraded from top to bottom, ensur- ing that thousands and thousands of children with life-threatening illnesses and their families will have frst class quarters for their wish vacations in central Florida in the future. In-kind contributions Special recognition goes to companies like these who made extremely generous in-kind contributions to the makeover, including: AIS Shower Doors ....................................... $47,000 Hospitality Logistics International ................ $54,000 La-z-boy Hospitality .................................... $65,000 Ferguson .................................................... $75,000 Window Interior .......................................... $85,000 Kellex Seating ............................................. $95,000 Central Moving and Storage ........................ $100,000 Gerber Danze .............................................. $168,000 Sherwin Williams ........................................ $500,000 Simmons .................................................... $189,000 General Electric (GE) ................................... $252,000 Hands-on contributions Many commercial construction and renovation contractors/vendors/consultants were involved in the project and displayed a genuine affnity for Give Kids The World and an obvious love for the children it serves. Among them were: Abat Builders Inc. Bacar Constructors Inc. Coastal Reconstruction Group Construction One Inc. Frazee Inc. GPD Group Home Depot ILC Construction Inc. Wyndham Vacation Ownership and the many contractors, supporters, contributors and friends of Give Kids The World who supported Extreme Village Makeover are examples of what is good in Corporate America today. Getting involved in charitable works not for the publicity or recognition it brings, but for the right reasons: helping children, giving kids with life-threatening illnesses vacations that many have never had and creating the happiness that inspires hope. 15 January : February 2014 — CommerCial ConstruCtion & renovation CCR-JanFeb.14_991-.indd 15 2/7/14 2:01 PM
